Andrew Fong

Growing up in Townsville, North Queensland Andrew commenced lessons with Paul Dean in 2008 by travelling to Brisbane four times a year. Since then he has been active as a soloist as well as a chamber and orchestral musician; performing as a concerto soloist with Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra in 2015, the Eden Wind Quintet from 2014-2016, and as Principal Clarinet in the Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra in 2016.

In 2017 he commenced studies at the Australian National Academy of Music(ANAM) with David Thomas, Principal Clarinet of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. As of 2019 Andrew has become a casual player with MSO and OV. Andrew has a passion for minimalism, klezmer, jazz and postmodern music that combines the aforementioned styles; ranging from the jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy to Golijov’s Clarinet Quintet: The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind.

In addition to Clarinet, Andrew also now teaches Saxophone.
