Ballet, contemporary and jazz are all specialised forms of dance which require high levels of technique, using specific groups of muscles in unique ways.
Ballet uses precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures, and is characterized by light, graceful movements.
Jazz showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Jazz is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.
Contemporary dance often involves a great deal of playing with balance, floorwork, fall and recovery and improvisation. Unlike traditional ballet, contemporary dance is not associated with specific dance techniques, but rather with a dance philosophy. This style places a heavy emphasis on the connection between mind and body, with dancers being encouraged to explore their emotions through dance which push against traditional boundaries.
