Private instrumental tuition for children and adults

Good musicians:

  • Hear what is sung
  • Sing what they hear
  • Hear what they sing
  • Play what they hear and sing
  • Read and hear what they play and sing
  • Sing, hear and play what they read!

Our philosophy

Music Works Magic embraces a developmental approach to music education based on the philosophy of Kodaly. Zoltan Kodaly, Hungarian music educator, who said that before we put expensive instruments into the hands of our young, they must be able to sing in tune. It is in the early years that our hearing develops and by exposing children in their early years to positive musical experiences through music education we can improve their vocal and listening skills. So our most advanced students are those who have taken the time to master their first instrument - the voice - and learn to sing in tune. Good musicians always sing. These sound music education foundations aid the learning and playing of musical instruments in later life. Back to top

Methods that suit your needs

At Music Works Magic, children and adults have the opportunity to learn various instruments with either a traditional, Suzuki or Colour Strings approaches. Our Director is happy to discuss the different methodolgies to help you to decide the best approach for you or your child. Exam preparation available but optional. All students are encouraged to perform at our concerts but again this is not compulsory. We encourage students to attend concerts to learn from and support each other. Before signing your child up to learn an instrument we recommend reading this fabulous article reprinted with kind permission from Melbourne's Child April 2010 edition. Click to download.
