Laura Uhe B.A from the Australian National University and Dip ED English,ESL and Drama from La Trobe University, has been involved in dance, theatre and music for most of her life! Studying classical ballet from the age of 4, she began performing children’s roles with the Perth City Ballet Company from the age of 8 and  toured with a youth Ballet company at the age of 14 to the Aberdeen Interntional Festival of the Arts and to  Vienna and the UK. Laura studied  AMEB Piano  to 7th grade  and  she also worked reading plays on the ABC radio series for children”Lets Join In”and has been involved in many theatre productions and plays . During the course of her university studies she  took courses in ethnomusicology  and was an active member of the university choir. She continued to study dance , focusing on Flamenco and Spanish Dance and has been a professional flamenco performer for the last 20 years.  During the course of her career she has conducted hundreds of workshop and  her performances include  in the Melbourne Festival of the Arts. The Apollo Bay and the Port Fairy Music Festival, Arts Centre Latin Concert Series and the Brunswick Music Festival. She choreographed a flamenco piece for Chunky Move’s production 'Wanted’ and conducted the successful series of Dancing in the Streets for the Melbourne Festival of the Arts in 2006. Most recently  she has performed with the Australian Opera in Bizet's Carmen both in Melbourne and in Taiwan in 2009. After participating in Music Works Magic classes with her own 2 children for many years, and having run her own dance studio teaching children and adults, Laura trained as a Music Works Magic teacher in 2003. She is passionate about teaching and loves sharing her joy of music, make believe and movement with all the children at Music Works Magic!

Mary Muirhead (B.V.Sc.), A.Mus. A (violin) Preschool (level 1)  Kodaly Certificate. Mary has been working in childcare centres bringing music and movement to babies, toddlers and kinder children. She currently runs a group on Wednesday mornings in Hawthorn.  Mary also studies singing with Kathryn Sadler, plays violin in a string quartet and has taken up Latin ballroom dancing. Mary is full of creativity and energy, enthusing all who make music with her! Mary is now the Director of The Learning for Life Autism Centre. Proceeds of  our 5 Cds go directly to support the wonderful work of this organisation.

Aviva Kalman, A.Mus.A. (cello) has been singing since birth, played cello since the age of 4. Beginning as a Suzuki student, she has more recently studied with Qin Yu Qin and attained her A. Mus A. accreditation through the A.M.E.B.  Viv plays in a variety of ensembles and performs in a solo capacity whenever the opportunity arises. She believes that developing a beautiful tone is essential and says that the more her students sing the more in tune their playing becomes. She enjoys teaching her students at Music Works Magic and having completed the Music Works Magic teacher's course works in a variety of Early Learning Centres, developing their music programs while studying Communication Arts at Melbourne University. Viv is very involved in swing dancing.

Debbie Brady  B.A, Dip.Ed,Dip. Arts Admin,A.Mus.A(flute).has been involved in music education for over 20 years. After completing school, Debbie taught the flute while studying for her Arts Degree at Melbourne University. She continued to teach privately and in schools for the next 18 years, also gaining a Diploma of Education and Graduate Diploma in Arts Administration along the way. A year in London in 1992 saw her working for Cala Records and the Philharmonia Orchestra in an administrative capacity. Debbie is a trained Suzuki music teacher and believes you're never too old, so she took up the cello 8 years ago. Debbie trained with Anna in her Elsternwick studio in Kodaly singing and has been loving singing and dancing with babies, toddlers and kinder kids ever since.

Cathy Winestone B. Ed. is a Pre-School Music and Dance teacher and has a Bachelor of Education in Drama from Melbourne University.  She has previously taught RAD Ballet and Pre-School Dance working with 3-8 year olds.  For the past seven years she has  taught Drama and Movement in pre-schools and primary schools across Melbourne. Cathy has completed the Music Works Magic course in Early Childhood Music Education and was immediately invited to join our teaching staff.  Cathy teaches in the Elsternwick Studio and various child care centres developing their pre-school music programs. Cathy also teaches The Magic of Music and Dance for little ones to experience a range of beautiful art music, world music and jazz music. Children and parents will move and dance with Cathy and discover the joys of this kinesthetic experience.

Tara Rawlins AE, Primary (Level 1) and Musicianship (Level 2) Kodály Certificates. Tara’s formal musical education began at the age of 4 when she started piano lessons with Eric Mitchell, one of the pioneers of the Suzuki method in Australia. During her school years Tara also had tuition in voice and flute and was an active participant in various choirs and concert bands. She went on to study composition and piano at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and the Victorian College of the Arts. Tara taught piano for several years at a number of primary schools in Geelong as well as at Monea Music Centre. Having worked for a number of years outside of music, Tara recently began her training in the Kodály concept in order to fulfil her desire to return to music and teach children. Tara is passionate about early learning and is committed to providing children with quality musical experiences. She has trained with Anna at Music Works Magic and will teach classes in the Essendon area in 2012.

Anna Mlynek-Kalman Director of Music Works Magic.

M. Mus., B. Ed., Dip Teach. A.Mus.A (flute) created Music Works Magic upon completion of her Master’s Degree in the U. S. in 1996. She has taught and directed music programs with children from K-year 12 for over 25 years at many schools both here in Australia and abroad. 

Anna currently tutors aural musicianship at Melbourne University. She consults in schools, runs training courses specifically for adults wishing to gain confidence when working with babies-8yr olds, as well as running sessions for this age group. She runs the Kodaly preschool teacher training course and Friday afternoon Professional Learning sessions for KMEIA. She has produced 5 Cds and accompanying Teachers’ Manuals; There’s A Rainbow In My Garden, Swing It Possum, All By Myself, On Safari containing Jungle Jive and Conga Line, containing 130 original songs for children. She is donating all proceeds from the CDs to The Autism Centre - Learning 4 Life. 

Anna is passionate about high quality music education and has created a program that offers a sound developmental, educational base for children from birth. She directs the Music Works Magic Education and Resource Centre working closely with her team of dedicated and talented teachers. She looks forward to meeting her youngsters each week and watching their musical growth.
