Belinda Dalton,
B. Mus., is a soprano studying her
Honours year in a vocal performance music degree at the University
of Melbourne Conservatorium with teacher Vivien Hamilton. She
places a strong emphasis on classical technique and has an in-depth
knowledge of vocal anatomy. Belinda feels that the key to loving
singing is the combination of a healthy voice, enjoyable repertoire
and a positive learning environment, having completed Practical
Anatomy for Classical Singers under the guidance of Anna Connelly
and Stephen Grant. She also believes in choral singing as one
of the quickest and most enjoyable means to gaining strong aural
skills, and believes that one of the best ways for students to
become confident performers is to perform regularly in friendly
non-competitive environments. She personally favours the music of
Debussy, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Bach. She believes that singing
is about communicating with your audience or those to whom you
perform. Her goal is to ensure that her students develop their
passion so that they can continue to derive enjoyment out of
singing for many decades to come.
Aviva
Barazani, B.
Mus., graduated from Melbourne University majoring in
vocal performance. Her love of music began at a young age, and she
commenced piano lessons at age four. She attended a musical high
school in her hometown of Jerusalem, majoring in piano performance,
and graduated with distinction. Having pursued a successful career
in conflict resolution, she has returned to music, which has always
been her passion, this time as a singer. During her university
studies, she was entrusted with developing and presenting a
programme of pre-concert musical activities for two performances at
the prestigious BMW Edge in Federation Square. She also had the
opportunity to give voice lessons at the Victoria College of the
Arts Secondary School (VCASS) and assist first-year music students
at VCA/Melbourne University to prepare for their technical voice
examinations. Aviva has performed in various lead roles in musical
theatre productions by the Jerusalem English Speaking Theatre
(JEST), and as a soloist with the Bel Canto choir in Jerusalem.
Since her arrival in Melbourne she has performed with the Early
Voices chamber ensemble, and currently performs with the Victoria
Chorale ensemble. Aviva's philosophical approach to teaching music
is that a sensible balance must be sought between focusing on
technique, attention to musicianship and musical interpretation,
based on the premise that the purpose of technique is to serve the
music and not the other way around. Aviva enjoys teaching adults
and as a mother of three, Aviva brings her life and experience in
raising children to her voice lessons, as well as her understanding
of what motivates youngsters to learn and to give their all.
